IES Expanding Air Shafts
Expanding air shafts manufactured by IES have 3 or more key-rows placed in removable and interchangeable cartridges, each with its own check valve.
This unique feature involves many benefits that expanding air-shafts manufactured by competitors does not have.
Operation and centering is better because it does not happen “pumping effect” present on shafts with one or more bladders communicating with each other.
In fact on IES expanding air-shafts compressed air cannot move from one bladder to another one pushed by the weight of the roll during the rotation of the shaft and the reels are always perfectly centered.
IES expanding air-shafts never stop to run because they are able to work the same even if some bladder is leaking air.
With IES expanding air-shafts downtime is widely reduced because the possible failed key-row is very easy to find and to replace without dismantling the whole shaft.
Just need to unscrew the two fixing cap-screws and then replace the failed key-row with a new one, replacing of the single bladder can also be done when the shaft is already running because each key-row is fully independent and interchangeable.
Expanding air-shafts are available with three main type of key-rows depending on the core material and roll width.
Key-rows with long self-centering aluminium keys perfectly center and lock cardboard cores, they were designed to replace the common pneumatic pre-centering systems not really available.
By using of steel square strip placed on the upper side of the key it is possible to lock metal or plastic cores without replacing the whole key-row.
Key-rows with short black nylon keys reinforced with internal steel insert are suitable for single or multiple cardboard cores very narrow, they are able to transmit higher torque that competitor’s shafts.
Key-rows with short red PVC keys with internal steel insert are suitable to lock metal or plastic cores.
Key-rows equipped with alternating nylon and PVC keys are universal because they can be used when the operator works with single or multiple cores made of several materials (cardboard, plastic or metal).
IES expanding shafts are carefully checked by technicians which define shaft execution and body material, depending by the total load that the shaft must handle.
They can be made of light aluminium alloy or steel. Journals, always made of steel, are manufactured following the customer dimensions, they can be hardened or protected against corrosion.
More often it is necessary that expanding shafts may possibly be handled easily by only one operator. IES expanding air-shafts are well known for their excellence performances and for their lightweight. Expanding air-shafts suitable for 3” cores can be manufactured from 4 different extruded aluminium profiles according to the load to be supported with the main target to provide always the lightest shaft possible. Journals ends are machined in order to get the shaft as light as possible.
An IES aluminium 3” air-shaft, 2 meters body length, weighs only 11 kg, therefore easy to handle even by a single operator.
